What wrist is a small wrist?
We’ve looked all over the internet and asked around what wrist is a small wrist statistically and finally, we’ve come across a study conducted on US Army soldiers that, among many other things, compared men and women wrist sizes answering the question in a great detail.
There were over 4000 participants that were chosen carefully for statistical significance of the sample (gender, sex, race etc.) so it looks like a credible source of knowledge. And as you know here at strapsy.eu we take wrists sizes very very seriously! 😉
Average size women wrist is 15,1 cm and for men, this number is 17,4 cm. Everything below that is a smaller size wrist although it is a bit different from what the watch straps standards are (more about that below). What is interesting about this study was that the average difference in wrist size between men and women is just 2,3 cm!
Short watch straps specification

The situation is a little easier in this case for women as there are more designs that look good on a small wrist for women.
If you are women with smaller wrists what you basically need to look for are small and rather simple watch faces with a small crown and no additional elements so overall the watch looks proportional and doesn’t overpower the wrist.
With men watches situation is different not only because there’s always less choice for people with non-typical sizes but even more because of the trend that favorites bigger, bolder watch faces. This is exactly what you need to avoid when you choose a watch and you have small wrists.
