The magic of Milanese watch bands

Milanese straps come of course from Milan in Italy where they were first produced as a special chainmail – a protective metal worn for safety. It was first introduced in the 13th century and stayed the trade secret of Italian masters for over 500 years. Italians quickly recognized the beauty and the elegance of this material and used it in many products and accessories.

In 1920′ Milanese straps came back thanks to famous German watch strap makers Staib and Vollmer and were incredibly popular until 60′.

Today Milanese watch straps are beloved for their versatility and discreet but distinct style.

Production process

The Milanese strap was originally made completely by hand and to be able to produce it was a sign of true mastery. Today specialized machines are doing all the hard work but still, there’s magic in the tightly woven and dense mesh construction that is famous for its smoothness and subtle elegance.

How to wear

This must be the greatest advantage of the Milanese strap – you can wear almost anything and go almost anywhere with it on your wrist and you won’t look out of place. As we said before it’s delicate but still a metal. It’s classy but can look cool. That’s why it is popular among many in both classic and shark-mesh form. It would be very hard to go wrong with these straps so fear not and just choose the one you love.
