Vintage leather watch straps – how to wear them?

The leather watch straps are without a doubt the most popular material among our customers as its classic appeal makes it a universal hit! As you may know, there are countless variations, patterns and finishes and dies that can be applied to the leather or vegan leather that can make it look completely different. This, of course, helps to bring a specific character to the strap and help you express yourself better no matter your style or fashion role models.

One of those styles of leather watch straps called vintage leather is often connected to particular types of watches and today we’ll tell you more about how to wear these straps and what exactly is vintage leather.

What is vintage leather

Vintage leather watch straps are prepared using various processes to give them a worn-out, old look so they match designs that require it. This is achieved with:

embossing and debossing – a process that results in raised or recessed relief images and designs on the surface of the leather

distressing  – creating irregular marks on the leather creating an illusion of the leather being heavily used

tanning – a process which permanently alters the protein structure of skin, making it more durable and less susceptible to decomposition, and also possibly coloring it

All those methods create one of the kind patterns on the surface of the strap that makes it look more expensive and unique. It looks like something you found on the attic of an old house and like it has history behind it. That’s why vintage leather is appreciated by watch collectors and lovers.

They are also often handmade using genuine leather which makes them also unique and valuable.

How to wear a vintage watch strap?

As we’ve mentioned at the beginning there are certain types of watch faces that traditionally go well together with vintage leather historically or as a fashion classic.

The most established connection with vintage leather we find in the pilot and military watches that were provided by the army with either leather  or a NATO straps and today are mainly worn with vintage leather that creates an illusion of the watch being an original form 1940’s

Next one is a chronograph that works well with the vintage watch adding to the artisan and complex feel that these watches are famous for. We would recommend a distressed leather strap with no embossing for a more elegant feel that better corresponds with the character of the watch.

In the end, we want to mention one more thing – band cuffs. This specially padded design created for German pilots during World War II gives almost a Mad Max-like, postapocalyptic look with some of the models available and looks very interesting and edgy in the vintage leather versions that underline its intrinsic character. It is a bold choice for sure but if this is something that excites you absolutely check band cuffs selection on our website.
